WeBuilder 2014 Here’s a review from a blogger When I discoved Blumentals back in 2004 I was on the hunt for a replacement code editor for my old (aging) software. I’d tested all the popular editors but none of them clicked with me - either the interfaces were too complex, or the software was too bloated and expensive. Then I found Blumentals HTMLPad which is a pure HTML editor, and luckily they were releasing WeBuilder which also supported programming languages like PHP, Ruby on Rails and ASP - perfect! If there’s one thing I like about WeBuilder it’s the interface. Unlike many other editors it’s clean and uncluttered, yet all the tools you need are in easy reach when you need them. You can also save your preferred workspace layouts so all your tool boxes are placed where you want them on startup. The first thing you notice is how fast it loads up - 2-3 seconds on my system. Once open it presents you with familiar Windows style menu bars (all of which are fully editable), and a choice of dockable sidebar panels which you can also set up however you wish. WeBuilder supports all the useful features you’d expect such as syntax highlighting for HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, Perl, VBscript, XML, SQL and Javascript, code collapsing, auto complete, code snippets and code validation. You have a full or split screen real-time preview feature that uses the proper Internet Explorer or Firefox browser engines to render the page - no more faffing about with the buggy proprietary browser previews found in other software! Unfortunately Opera and Safari browsers can’t be directly integrated due to their API’s. However you can still set up one click previews for these browsers. For the novice there’s a number of premade CSS templates, samples for learners and some wizards for simple HTML pages to get you up and running quickly. You can also add your own templates to the library which is useful for storing generic page layouts and cutting down development time. Also worthy of note at this point is the Library in which you can store regularly used code snippets or text which are added to the page you’re working on in one click. The developers are constantly improving WeBuilder and there’s generally a new release once a year. Most improvements come from suggestions by the growing user community. http://www.blue-dreamer.co.uk/blog/entry/webuilder-html-editor-review
